For people who work in fashion, there’s often a feeling of seasonal displacement. For months now I’ve been scrupulously studying the A/W13 collections, not to mention the 2014 Resort trends. Thinking so far ahead can leave one in a strange style limbo; when you’re pre-occupied with what’s coming you tend to miss what’s going on in the moment (this statement is true to many of life’s situations, but for now I’ll stick to fashion).

The good news is that fashion is an ever-changing creature, and these days seasonally effected confusion is less of a problem. The pre and resort collections have blurred the boundaries of the seasons; it’s no longer as cut and dried as ‘Spring’ and ‘Autumn’. Also the proliferation of online super boutiques like Net-a-Porter means that fashion no longer belongs to Paris, London, Milan and New York. Now stylish people the world over have access fashionable clothes, regardless of their local climate conditions.
In order to meet this global demand designers are creating collections that cater for customers for whom the meteorological concerns of the northern hemisphere don’t necessarily apply. The upshot of the season blend is that it’s possible to be ahead of the game, no matter the weather. A lot of the trends that are coming up for autumn look just as great in summer as they will when the temperature drops. One of the biggest colours for fall is pink; as delightful in the sun as in the shade. Simone Rocha, Carven, Louis Vuitton, Celine and Jonathan Saunders – to name but a few – referenced rosy hues in their collections. From palest nude to deepest magenta, pink dominated the fall runways. Get in on the action early on the trend and look peachy at summer parties, then pair with dove grey, camel and black for a soft, winter look.
