There are certain labels that push the envelope, challenge conventional wisdom and encourage us to re-evaluate how we get dressed. In most cases these ground breaking label’s prices are as high as their concepts; the mere mortals among us can only dream of wearing an extraordinary creation by Peter Pilotto, Christopher Kane or Alexander McQueen. However, once in a while a brand will come along that makes amazing, contemporary clothes that don’t cost the earth; Three Floor is one such brand. Founded in 2011 by Central Saint Martin’s graduate Han Chong and Yvonne Hoang, the label offers genuinely interesting designs at prices that don’t require the bank balance of an oligarch.
Inspired by the outfits of fashion bloggers and industry insiders, the online label has been a firm favourite of editors and buyers since it’s creation. The A/W13 collection has just dropped on the Three Floor site, and their usual mash-up of sporty lines with feminine lace, ruffles and quirky details are as desirable as ever.
It’s the details that make this label special; whether it’s the cartoon dinosaur spines on the arms of the sweaters, the origami folds on the skirts or the lavishly layered collars, Three Floor know how to make interesting clothes that stand out from the crowd. Most labels of a similar price point lack the imagination and ingenuity to create clothes that make a statement, an impact and dare to be different.
I’m in lust with the Campaign Coat – a beautifully edgy way to work the oversized coat trend, in perennially chic camel. I’m also seriously considering the Fatale Dress; perfect for early autumn cocktails.
