I’ve been enjoying the recent incarnation of Victoriana: the Alexander McQueen and Chloe collections were steeped in turn-of-the-century references and the look is all over the high street. When worn head to toe, modern Victorian is rather dramatic, of which I’m a fan. However, draping oneself in velvet and lace could be considered too flamboyant for every day. To avoid looking like an extra in a costume drama, keep it soft and subtle. This 70s vintage, handkerchief hem dress was an Ebay find and I’ve updated it with a coat from Zara. I like the military details and gently puffed shoulders. The boots are really old from Kurt Geiger and the scarves are vintage and borrowed from my husband’s tie draw.
