Super Stoker

Joanne Stoker is one of my favourite emerging shoe and accessory designers. She has worked with amazing talent, including Eudon Choi and Teatum Jones. She’s about to embark on a host of exciting new projects that’s certain to solidify her well-deserved space amongst the best and brightest of British fashion. These killer heels are dripping in an on-trend 70’s vibe, coupled with the interesting detailing on the heels and soles, which marks them out from the crop of platforms around right now. Unfortunately, I’m not a great foot model. No matter how fabulous the shoe, nothing disguises my gnarly trotters. I’ve avoided any close ups of my feet as they’re likely to cause nightmares, so I’m afraid you’ll have to enjoy Joanne’s brilliant platforms from afar. I’ve styled the heels with a 193o’s vintage wedding dress and […]

Joanne Stoker

I have always embraced the peculiar and eccentric. Recently I’ve fallen for Joanne Stoker’s shoes which are a both whimsical and wearable. Every now and again I come across a brand that is ‘stop you in your tracks amazing’ and Stoker’s collections are just that. Distinct, quirky and original, Joanne’s shoes are the perfect hybrid of style and art. She originally studied textiles and went on to graduate from the prestigious Cordwainers College with a MA in Footwear Design. Joanne caught the discerning eye of Jimmy Choo and was mentored by the footwear veteran before setting up her eponymous label. The fashion industry pricked up its ears, awarding her the prestigious Vogue Talents Award and landing collaborations with the likes of Matthew Williamson & Dune. She has also worked with two of my favourite British designers, Teatum Jones […]

Super Furry Animals

It may seem like madness to talk about winter coats in the midst of a heatwave (London is like a dusty sauna at the moment). But when the fall collections drop in a few weeks, it will prudent to get ahead of the game. By September the fashionistas will have swooped in like patient vultures circling their prey and all the good stuff will have been snapped up. A key trend for A/W14 is the shaggy coat. Fluffy outerwear ambled its way down the runways in a variety of breeds. Some designers focused on cozy, flocculent sheepskin. One of my favourites was the dove grey Mongolian lambswool from Eudon Choi. Other designers trimmed collar and cuffs with brightly hued, fuzzy shearling, while others went the full sasquatch. I loved Prada’s brilliant scarlet, long haired coat – if it were […]

Fashion Hysteria at Edun Choi

Fashion week is a hectic, exhilarating, exhausting, inspiring whirligig of shows, presentations and meetings. There’s a manic atmosphere at Somerset House that feeds upon itself, the palpable excitement builds to fever pitch which is barely disguised by everyone’s thinly veiled attempt to look as cool and nonchalant as possible. Eudun Choi encapsulated the biannual mania that is fashion week with his A/W14 collection, aptly titled Hysteria. The collection was inspired by the screaming fans of 60’s rockstars. There sound of caterwauling Beatles worshipers played as we walked into the venue, adding to the already fevered atmosphere outside. When the models came sauntering down the runway the soundtrack cranked up several another notches as the roar of The Rolling Stone’s ‘Satisfaction’ filled the room. The clothes had a sixties gamine feel, yet the nostalgic reference […]
