Week by Week

In the early stages of my pregnancy, I knew how far along I was to the day. Months later, I frequently get it wrong. I thought I was 30 weeks gone, but I’ve just checked my calendar and I’ve realised that I’m actually at week 31. This means I have one week less to get stuff done, assuming baby boy rocks up on time. If he’s anything like me, he’ll be late. But I’m not panicking because I’m having a surge of energy and focus and I’m more productive right now than I’ve been in my entire working life. I assume this surge in productivity is just pregnancy hormones doing their thing, but it’s useful nonetheless. I’m still doing my upmost to avoid the scourge of terrible maternity wear. Blue Velvet

I really into velvet right now, it can be tricky but when styled right, it’s perfect for winter parties. Givenchy, Alexander Wang,  and Christopher Kane used velvet in their AW15 collections. I love the old school opulence and glamour associated with the luxurious fabric, the key to keeping it modern and chic is to choose clean shapes and great tailoring. I fancy wearing a velvet skirt during the day, paired with a sporty T or a denim shirt, but that’s just me. Feature image Christopher Kane AW15, courtesy of cnn.com

Smoke House

Over the last couple of years I have become obsessed with makeup, in fact a friend of a friend who has been following my blog asked if I had indulged in a little plastic surgery. This isn’t true, I haven’t gone under the knife or had botox. I think the reason why she might have thought that I had work done is because I have got to grips with the transformative power of make-up. Unfortunately, all of my favourite brands are on the expensive side – Bobbi Brown, Charlotte Tilbury, Lipstick Queen, Nars, Kevyn Aucoin, and Tom Ford line my fantasy make-up bag. If I had the money, I would be constantly buying the latest and greatest products on the market. That said, there is loads of excellent stuff available at a lower price point – […]

Charlotte Tilbury: from Youtube to Yourface

I’m a champion procrastinator, I’ve whiled away many an unproductive but happy hour watching videos on YouTube and browsing for vintage clothes on eBay. My favourite videos on Youtube either involve Honey Badgers, full grown men re-creating the conversations of a two-year-old or makeup tutorials.  The plethora of makeup tutorials on YouTube are somewhat hit and miss, however there are some that provide indispensable advice from veteran makeup artists who’ve honed their craft after years of working in the industry. In my opinion, the best ones are by Pixiwoo, Lisa Eldridge and Charlotte Tilbury. The proliferation of  YouTube tutorials have fundamentally changed the way makeup brands market their products. No longer can brands rely on glossy adverts and pretty packaging to tempt customers to part with their hard earned cash – women want to see the products […]
